On March 14th, 2016, I had the honor of attending the Woman of the Year 2016 Ceremony, which the California State Assembly honored women from across the state for their remarkable contributions to their respective communities. Among the honorees, Mrs. Chan Hopson of the Khmer Parent Association was acknowledged for her excellent achievement and lifelong commitment in serving the Long Beach community. It was such an amazing experience to see all the outstanding women standing tall and proud for their commitment and years of devotion to their communities. This included Mrs. Hopson, who is a phenomenal person. Her dedication and giving heart makes her the perfect candidate for this distinctive award. She is truly outstanding and has spent many years advocating and promoting education.
Overall, attending the event was an empowering experience because I got to see and witness so many powerful and passionate ladies share their stories. Behind every successful women is herself. I've also had the honor of sitting down with Assemblymember Patrick O'Donnell, 70th District, and we shared a few ideas together. If it wasn't for Mrs. Hopson, Assemblymember Patrick O'Donnell and his wonderful staff, I would not have had the opportunity to attend this life changing moment and meet people who have done so much to make this world a better place. It was not only inspiring but it motivated me to want to do even more. I am so excited and so proud of Mrs. Hopson! She is truly deserving of this award and characterizes the definition of a leader!
A message to my peers and young woman -- do not say sorry before you speak, you are allowed to be yourself. Speak up and feel powerful because you are the future! You have as much potential as any person in the room; as long as you believe, work hard, and stay focused you can achieve anything. The sky is the limit and I hope you always remember that! Thank you!
